Your IPL FAQ’s answered

What is IPL?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) , is a laser treatment that uses high-intensity bursts of visible light. It’s a versatile cosmetics procedure which is designed to combat a variety of skin concerns and aesthetics issues. These issues include Veins (Broken capillaries), pigment, age spots, rosacea, cherry angiomas and much more!

Is IPL painful?

IPL treatments are delivered with the sensation of heat from the hand piece, which is operated by your practitioner. You can expect to feel a short, quick zap of energy to the treated area. The sensation is that of a light snap from a rubber band. IPL treatments cause very little discomfort and are usually tolerated very well. Cooling levels on out machine can be adjusted to ensure optimal comfort throughout.

How does IPL work?

During an IPL session, pulses of light are delivered to the skin's surface, where they are absorbed by the targeted pigments. The light energy is then converted into heat, effectively destroying the targeted cells and structures.

IPL also stimulates the skin's natural regenerative processes, promoting collagen production and improving overall skin texture.

How long does an IPL treatment take?

The exact time depends on the size of the area being treated and the skin concern. Typically it will take between 20-40 minutes.

Am I suitable for IPL?

IPL may not be safe for those with certain health problems or taking certain medications. This is why we will conduct a consultation and test patch prior to any treatments. Those who are pregnant, breastfeeding or going through IVF are not suitable as well as clients with darker skin tones are not a candidate for IPL laser treatment.

What areas can be treated with IPL?

Almost anywhere can be treated using IPL depending on the skin concern and type. The most common areas are face, neck, hands, arms and chest.

When will I begin to see results from IPL?

Clients will begin to see results anywhere from instantly - 10 days, depending on the concern they have had treated. Full results can be seen after 2 weeks. IPL also stimulates new collagen, due to this your overall skin will continue to improve over the next 6 months.

Is there any downtime with IPL?

After your treatment, you may appear red and have a slight heat to your skin. If you are having pigmentation treated, the pigment will go darker instantly and can go crispy in a few days time.
